There are 120 image models with a published price at one provider alone. Most "best AI image model" lists rank them as if there were a single winner. There is not β there is a cheapest model that will clear your quality bar, and that changes with the job.
So this is a shortlist by task, with the cost of each. Every price was read from the provider's own page.
Prices last checked: August 26, 2026. Live figures are on the compare page.
Bulk generation, forgiving quality bar
Thumbnails, placeholders, variations, drafts β anything where you will generate a hundred and keep three.
| Model | Provider | Per image | 10,000 images |
|---|---|---|---|
| FLUX Schnell | Atlas Cloud / Replicate | $0.003 | $30 |
| GPT Image 1 mini | Atlas Cloud | $0.004 | $40 |
| Z-Image Turbo | Atlas Cloud | $0.005 | $50 |
FLUX Schnell is the floor of the market and is explicitly built for it β its own description calls it "the fastest image generation model tailored for local development and personal use". Ten thousand images for thirty dollars.
Z-Image Turbo is worth knowing for a different reason: a 6-billion-parameter model that its provider says generates "photorealistic images in sub-second time". When latency is the constraint rather than cost, that is the line to read.
One trap: Replicate publishes FLUX Schnell as "$3 per thousand output images". That is $0.003 each β the same as Atlas Cloud, written a thousand times larger. Scanning for the cheapest option, it looks like the most expensive one.
General production work
The middle of the table, where most projects actually live.
| Model | Provider | Per image |
|---|---|---|
| FLUX dev | Atlas Cloud | $0.012 |
| Qwen-Image | Atlas Cloud | $0.024 |
| FLUX dev | Replicate | $0.025 |
| Seedream 4 | Atlas Cloud | $0.027 |
| FLUX.2 pro | Atlas Cloud | $0.030 |
| Wan 2.7 Text-to-image | Atlas Cloud / fal.ai / Replicate | $0.030 |
FLUX dev at $0.012 is the best value in this band, and it is the clearest example in the whole catalogue of why provider choice matters: the same model is $0.025 at Replicate. Same model, same unit, same output, twice the price.
Above that, Seedream 4 and Wan 2.7 sit at a tier where you are paying for capability rather than throughput.
Editing an existing image
| Model | Provider | Per edit |
|---|---|---|
| Qwen-Image Edit Plus | Atlas Cloud | $0.021 |
| FLUX Kontext dev | Atlas Cloud / Replicate | $0.025 |
| Seedream 4 Edit | Atlas Cloud | $0.027 |
| Qwen-Image Edit | Atlas Cloud | $0.032 |
Qwen-Image Edit is the one to test first if your edits are specific. Its provider description is unusually concrete: "precise modification of text within images, addition, deletion, or movement of objects, alteration of subject actions, transfer of image styles." Editing text inside a picture and moving objects are the hard parts, and it is the model that claims them by name.
FLUX Kontext dev is priced identically at two providers β $0.025 at both β which is rare enough to be worth noting when you want a fallback with no cost surprise.
Text inside images
If your output contains words β posters, UI mockups, packaging β this is a distinct capability, not a quality gradient. Two starting points:
- Ideogram v4 Turbo at $0.008, or Ideogram v4 Quality at $0.025 (Atlas Cloud). The Ideogram family is built around text rendering.
- Qwen-Image Edit at $0.032, for correcting text in an image you already have.
Top of the range
| Model | Provider | Per image |
|---|---|---|
| Seedream 4.5 | Atlas Cloud | $0.036 |
| Nano Banana | Atlas Cloud | $0.038 |
| Nano Banana | fal.ai / Replicate | $0.039 |
| Seedream 4.5 | Replicate | $0.040 |
Nano Banana is priced within a cent across three independent providers β $0.038, $0.039, $0.039. When three companies land that close, there is little room to shop and the price is probably near what the model costs to serve.
Worth it only if you have tested that the difference shows up in your outputs. At $0.038 against FLUX dev's $0.012, you are paying three times as much per image.
Avoid the per-megapixel trap at large sizes
Some models are billed per megapixel rather than per image. That is cheaper for small outputs and much more expensive for large ones β and the rounding rule makes it bite sooner than the arithmetic suggests.
fal.ai's Qwen-Image states: "Your request will cost $0.02 per megapixel. Images are billed by rounding up to the nearest megapixel." A 1024Γ1024 image is 1.05 megapixels β four percent over the line β so it bills as two. $0.04, not $0.021.
If you output at 1024 square or larger, prefer a flat per-image price.
What this list cannot tell you
Which model makes the best picture.
Every entry above is ranked by price and by what the provider documents the model to do. Neither is a measure of output quality, and no table can be. A $0.003 image and a $0.038 image are not the same picture β but which one your use case needs is a question about your use case.
The method that works: pick two or three from the right section here, run the same prompt through each, and look. Ten attempts across three models costs under a dollar.
The short version
| If you are⦠| Start with | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| generating in bulk | FLUX Schnell | $0.003 |
| doing general production work | FLUX dev on Atlas Cloud | $0.012 |
| editing existing images | Qwen-Image Edit Plus | $0.021 |
| rendering text in images | Ideogram v4 Turbo | $0.008 |
| going for maximum quality | Nano Banana or Seedream 4.5 | $0.036β$0.039 |
And whichever you pick: check every provider that serves it. FLUX dev is twice the price at one provider than another, and nothing on the model card tells you that.
